Which tense should I use?

"Don't" or "didn't"? And please explain.

I'm having a hard time figuring this out...

"We ate at jack's loft but my kids ______ want the menu there so I bought Christmas Bucket Feast from KFC.

Thank you!

Hi,

This is the correct version:
"We ate at Jack's Loft, but my kids didn't want the menu there, so I bought Christmas Bucket Feast from KFC.

Why "didn't"?

Well, your sentence is in the past, so you should use "didn't" and not "don't."

The logic is that if you are telling about something in the past then you should use the past tense.

I hope this helps :)
